Our present portfolio consists of 52,289 residential mortgage loans in 57 provinces and the National Capital Region, acquired by BHFI under a ground-breaking joint arrangement with the National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation (NHMFC). |

The portfolio includes loans originated by the NHMFC between 1987 and 1996 to member-borrowers of either the Social Security System (SSS) or the Home Mutual Development Fund (Pag-Ibig).
This landmark transaction, in terms of size and importance, has been hailed as an important cornerstone in the government's efforts to pare its non-performing assets, as well as infuse much needed liquidity to the Philippine low income housing sector. This highly visible and precedent-setting transaction has likewise been cited as sending a clear signal that the Philippine Government is committed to encourage private sector participation, strengthen credit culture in mortgage lending, support companies that develop housing stock for middle to lower income segments, and promote the development of capital markets.
We anticipate that the majority of the loans in the BPHI portfolio will be successfully refinanced with the existing borrowers as BFS brings into the country an innovative model for distressed asset resolution. Conducted in close consultation with the borrowers, our programs will provide a means to settle long-outstanding obligations and thus promote positive home equity for borrowers and their families. |
